SELANK 5MG

The Selank peptide has the ability to increase serotonin levels in the body, which is significant because serotonin regulates the stages of sleep and wakefulness, and its deficiency results in difficulties falling asleep. Through this mechanism, Selank helps combat insomnia, aids in regulating the sleep-wake cycle, and improves and regulates the circadian rhythm. Additionally, by facilitating falling asleep and improving sleep quality, the peptide results in increased vitality and energy during the day.

What is Selank?

Selank is a peptide belonging to synthetic regulatory peptides. The peptide is an analog of the tuftsin molecule, which has been extended at the C-terminus by adding three natural L-amino acids (Pro-Gly-Pro) to improve its metabolic stability and achieve a longer duration of action.

Research on the Selank peptide has shown that it has distinct anxiolytic, nootropic, sleep-promoting, and antiviral activities.

Selank exhibits positive nootropic and sleep-promoting effects due to:

Regulation of serotonin levels: Selank, in cases of sleep disorders, helps to increase serotonin levels, which significantly drop at night, leading to the regulation of the biological clock.

Stimulation of GABA receptors: Selank promotes relaxation and calmness through its ability to stimulate GABA receptors, facilitating faster sleep onset and providing a calming and soothing effect.

Research on Selank

a) Selank and the elimination of insomnia

In a conducted study, the effect of the Selank peptide on serotonin (5-HT) metabolism was tested. It was found that Selank improves 5-HT metabolism in the brainstem of the tested subjects. The obtained data suggest that Selank can be used to correct disorders caused by decreased 5-HT metabolism.

In the mentioned study, it was proven that Selank has the ability to increase serotonin levels in the body, which is significant because serotonin regulates the stages of sleep and wakefulness, and its deficiency results in difficulties falling asleep. Through this mechanism, Selank helps to combat insomnia, regulate the sleep-wake cycle, and improve circadian rhythm.

b) Selank and the improvement of cognitive abilities

The results of a study on the role of the Selank peptide demonstrated its positive effect on improving cognitive functions. After administration of the Selank peptide to the subjects, long-lasting behavioral changes were observed, including the elimination of fear and aggression, increased exploratory and orientational activities, improved handling of reactions and communication relationships, and enhanced cognitive functions (memory and learning processes).

General research shows that individuals with high levels of BDNF experience a slower decline in cognitive functions and memory. Additionally, BDNF helps with learning and adapting to new situations, so in another study, researchers aimed to demonstrate the impact of the Selank peptide on BDNF mRNA expression in the hippocampus of the test subjects. The subjects were given the peptide in two doses (250 and 500 μg/kg body weight) and observed at 3 and 24 hours after administration, as shown below. The results indicate that Selank, with its anxiolytic and nootropic properties, can regulate BDNF levels in the hippocampus of rats, helping to maintain and improve cognitive functions.

Figure 1. The effect of the Selank peptide on BDNF levels in the hippocampus of the test subject, 3 and 24 hours after administration of the peptide at doses of 250 and 500 μg/kg body weight. The study used the following designations: 1 – control, 2 – Selank at a dose of 250 μg/kg, 3 – Selank at a dose of 500 μg/kg.

Selank significantly increased BDNF mRNA levels in the hippocampus by a factor of 1.5-2 compared to the control, 3 hours after administration at doses of 250 or 500 μg/kg body weight. The results clearly show a statistically significant 30% increase compared to the control value of BDNF levels in the rat hippocampus 24 hours after administration of the peptide at doses of 250 or 500 μg/kg body weight, proving its positive impact on maintaining and restoring normal cognitive functions.

c) Selank and antiviral activity

The Selank peptide, added to the cell culture 24 hours before inoculation (preventive use scheme), showed the highest efficacy, completely suppressing virus replication, confirming its antiviral activity. Researchers suggest that the results of the study on the antiviral activity of the Selank peptide may be due to its ability to modulate the Th1/Th2/Treg cytokine balance both directly and indirectly through the central nervous system.
